A decorative and copiously illustrated map of Abyssinia and the Kingdom of Prester John, part of present-day Egypt, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Top left the crowned coat of arms of Ethiopia with a lion holding up a cross. Bottom left a cartouche with the title. Bottom right a cartouche with legend. The map is populated with camels, elephants, crocodiles, rhinos and other indigenous creatures.
Jobi Ludolfus (1624-1704) was a German scholar and historian, specialising in Abyssinia (Ethiopia).
