One double page maritime chart from John Pine's Tapestry hangings of the House of Lords Representing the Engagements between the English and Spanish Fleets in the year 1588…The charts were printed in pairs, in blue, within separately printed, very decorative uncoloured borders.
This is an early chart within the atlas, as the left chart shows a tightly bunched Spanish fleet just off the Cornish coast, while the right chart shows the English fleet getting in formation behind the Spanish fleet, while the wind blows them closer to the Devonshire coast toward Plymouth.

In 1616 the tapestries were bought by King James I, who promptly had them hung in the House of Lords, where they remained throughout the Civil war and subsequent Restoration, only then to be destroyed when the Houses of Parliament burnt down in 1834! There wonderful charts are the only record there is of the once magnificent tapestries, highlighting a pivotal event in English history.
