First edition published in Paris in the sixteenth century and the first with the preface by Thibaud Pigenat.
Translation from Greek into Latin by Gregorio Tifernate and Guarino Veronese.
"Strabo, died around 23, wrote in Greek an immense treatise on Geography that was very precise as he was a visual witness: he went to Asia Minor, Armenia, Sardinia, Egypt, Corinth, Cyrene, and travelled partly in Italy. He also collected testimonies from others, such as on Etna. Eratosthenes, Polybius, Artemidoros, Posidonius, Apollodorus of Artemita for Parthian Asia, Demetrius of Scepsis and Apollodorus of Athens for Greece.

Book III to Book XVII, are devoted to the descriptive geography of regions of the empire.

The landscapes of Central Europe are little treated, as well as those of India and Ariane, for which it brings no new information. His books on Greece are also poor, but those on Iberia, the Alps and the whole Caucasus and Taurus region (Book XI and XII) are clear and precise.
Reference: Brigitte Moreau, II, 459.
