Condition: Hand-coloured zincograph map, dissected into 18 sheets and mounted on cloth. Discolouration and staining in upper corner of the cover, generally in very good condition.
Condition Rating

Charming folding map of east coast of China, Korea and Japan. In lower right corner inset map of Korea (265x512mm.).
In lower left a key to Treaty Ports, Submarine Cables, Railways, Treaty Ports proposed 1898. Main cities underlined in red.

Still in it's original publisher's yellow advertisements at endpapers, folding into original red covers, yellow label.
Published by Edward Stanford, 26 and 27 cockspur street, Charing Cross, London.
Dimensions when folded 175x115mm. Scale: one inch : 110 miles.


Provenance : With signature of Alan Sillitoe (1928-2010), who was Englandís best writers of proletarian fiction. From an early age, geography and maps were a very important part of his life.
In August 2011, Ramsay Wood meets and talks with Alan Silitoe and wrote : Sillitoe loves maps. He regards them the way some people regard beautiful paintings.
