This fine English map of eastern North America including Canada engraved by John Harris and first published by Robert Morden. John Senex acquired and made minor alterations to the plate, which was published in his New General Atlas . This was the only atlas issue of the map from this period of English cartography. The map is well detailed, has distinctive range of mountains running south from the Michigan peninsula and inset details of Boston harbour and the North Atlantic.
John Senex's A New General Atlas of the World was, strangely. the only early 18th century English attempt at emulating the success of the French and Dutch mapmakers' folio atlases.
Other London mapmakers concentrated on very large, or very small format atlases, separate issues or chart books: whereas Senex produced his maps in folio format.
Reference: Goss, North America, 54: Cumming 172.
