The excellent map by the Scottish engraver John Thomson, depicts Mexico from the Yucatan northwards to what would eventually become the Republic of Texas, and the Louisiana Territory. This region would eventually become the U.S. States of Arizona, New Mexico, California, Texas, Utah, Nevada, Louisiana, Colorado and Oklahoma.

This map is based largely on the maps of Alexander von Humboldt and Zebulon Pike.

A later edition from John Thomson's A New General Atlas, (Edinburgh), first published in 1814.

Texan place names are no longer “presidios” and have been expanded to include several Anglo names. Santa Fe, the capital of Spanish North America, also figures prominently. This edition amends many topographical details of Humboldts map east of the Rockies, including new mountainous elevations and rivers while also adding new tributaries to the Colorado river, etc. Evidence of Pikes important 1806-07 explorations in what is today Colorado is seen for instance in the unnamed mountain (Pikes Peak in Colorado), which is here simply labelled "Highest Peak".
