Title : Chart of the rise & progress of christianity..
Map maker : SHACKELL / ARROWSMITH.
Date : London, after 1823.
Size : 22.8 x 17.9 inches. / 58.0 x 45.5 cm.
Colouring : In attractive strong original colours.

Description :A very unusual folding sheet with in top double hemisphere hand coloured world map with a note saying : In the map of the World, those parts coloured RED, are inhabited by Christians - Green, by Mahomedans - and YELLOW by Pagans". In the middle a schematic presentation of the number of Greek -, Roman Catholics and Protestants from 100 AD until 1823.
Furthermore this page has tables of Population of the World, Great Britain and Ireland population, Number of Christians in 1822.
In lower part an extensive descriptions of the various main branches, Churches, Denominations, Religious Orders, and other identifiable groups within Christianity of the Past and up to 1800.
According to a note the text leans of the works of Evans, "Denominations of the Christian World" and Nightingale's "All Religions".

Condition : Dissected map contemporary laid on canvas, with its original slip case with a past on title. Ex Battersea Public Libraries (1913) label on verso: Presented by The Executors of the late Rev. Dawson Burno D.D. 11 March 1913.
