French cartographer Nicolas de Fer (1646-1720) was a leader among cartographers and map publishers of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. With the death of his father in 1673, Nicolas took over the publishing house and created numerous atlases, prized for their original and decorative qualities and accurate publications.
In 1691, de Fer became an official geographer of the French Daupin and in 1702 to the Duke of Anjor later to be the King of Spain.
