Description
Full title on the print: ‘dese Cagelot Vis lang 64 Voet, is Gestrand tussen Zantvoord en Wyk op Zee, den 20. Feb. 1762, op’t Strand in Openbaare Vyling Verkogt den 5 maart voor 900 Guldens, naar’t Leven Getekend den 21 febr. en vervolgens in ’t Koper gebragt door C. V. Noorde.'
Engraved text in the lower part of the sheet detailing the size of the whale, exact date of the whale being stranded, the depiction executed, the date of the carcass’s auction and the prize realised.
Engraved broadsheet by Cornelius van Noorde. Oblong folio engraving on copper, image size (210 x 230) on full leaf (230 x 360 mm). In excellent condition, mounted at extreme corners only in oversized acid-free passe-partout (500 x 590 mm).
Main image with lots of onlookers gathered around the carcass of the whale stranded at the beach between Zandvoort and Wijk aan Zee. With a few coaches in the background and fishermen already working at the carcass. Inlet view at the bottom of the print shows the back of the stranded whale seen from the back: ‘de Vis van agteren’.
Of the variety of whale standings at Dutch beaches this one is the most rare.

Original colors; mean that the colors have been applied around the time the map was issued.
Colored; If the colors are applied recently or at the end of the 20th century, then "colored", or "attractive colors" will be used.
Original o/l colors; means the map has only the borders colored at the time of publication.
