A detailed atlas of the US state of Michigan, by Henry Walling, and published by R.M. & S.T. Tackabury in 1873 [First ed?]. Complete with title page, contents page, Index to maps, preface, text pages, a list of cities, towns and villages, population of US states and territories, and a comprehensive business directory or listings of services at the rear.
All maps are lithographs, and are in original colour.

There are 2 x city maps (doubles) of Detroit and Grand Rapids, 2 x general maps (doubles) of United States and Europe, 6 x state maps: Michigan, Lower peninsular, showing contours, Michigan and parts of adjacent states showing railroads, Michigan coloured to show Geological Formations, Michigan and adjacent states with Isothermals, Michigan showing Judicial Circuits and Congressional Districts, Michigan showing Senatorial & Representative Districts, 77 x state county maps.
A wonderful atlas for someone originally from Michigan, has family and relatives in Michigan, or now lives in Michigan.

Henry Walling was perhaps the most accomplished and interesting American cartographer of the mid-late 19th century, this was in no small part because of his prolific output: Between 1848 and 1888 he produced something like 150 large-scale, separately-issued maps of American towns and counties, several state maps, many state and county atlases, and numerous maps for the U.S. Geological Survey.
Arguably his greatest impact may have been as an innovator. He helped pioneer new models of partnership between commercial, local, state and Federal mapping enterprises, he amply demonstrated that commercial mapmakers could produce high-quality, low-cost maps by drawing on the work of government scientific agencies.
