Condition:  Small folio. 3 parts in one volume. [16], 108 , [10], 66 , [2], 54 [4] pp. 2 title-pages (of 3) in engraved architectural surrounds. Woodcut printer's device at end of the first and last parts. 23 engraved maps on 20 sheets (19 double-page, 4 small maps printed on a single double-page sheet). Dark blue morocco decorated with gilt-tooled geometric motifs, spine gilt. Modern binding (M. Richard). First title-page restored and remargined, loss of paper at lower part affecting, affecting old owners stamp and the address replaced and re-drawn, . Last leaf with printer's device re-margined, loss of paper at lower part not affecting the text, replaced. The first 3 leaves with slight loss along edges. World map trimmed in lower part reinforced. Map of “Conibas Regio ” slightly shorter. Map of Canada restored at lower part. Slightly browning and brown spotting throughout. Ink stain at p. 78 affecting the reverse of the map. Loss of paper lower part of p. 99 repaired and lines re-drawn.

Third edition in French of the first atlas of America illustrated with19 maps of the Americas, a world map in the first part and 4 half-page maps in the second part representing the East Indies, Japan, China and the Philippine Islands.
This edition includes Giovanni Antonio Magini's descriptions of the Indies and of Japan. The four small maps on one double-page sheet in Magini's supplement show the East Indies, Japan, China and the Philippines. The remarkable map of the PHILIPPINE ISLANDS is a very close copy of the Kaerius map, the first map of the Islands (1598).
There is a world map (after Mercator's of 1587), ten maps of South America and 8 maps of North America. The North American maps include the first printed map of central Canada, the second to use Virginia in its title, a very early map to include present-day southern Texas, and the first printed map devoted to California and the American southwest.
States of maps in this copy : Burden 100 : state 3 , Burden 102 : state 2 , Burden 103 : state 3 , Burden 107 : state 2. Lacking the second title-page.
