A rare map centred on Austria, eastern Germany, Poland and Tsjechië. In upper right corner an inset plan of Prague. Showing the situation of the first Silesian War of 1742 which ended with the treaty of Breslaw. Two campagn route are drawn in and coloured in yellow and red.
Jonathan Felsecker (1683-1729) was active as engraver, publisher and printer in Nürnberg.

An anonymous map, published separately shortly after 1742 by Adam Jonathan Felsecker Heirs.
This Nuremberg publishing house specialized in maps illustrating wars that plagued 18 th century Europe and in plans of fortresses. The map shows routes of Prussian, Hungarian, Saxon, French and Austrian troops marching through territories of Silesia, Bohemia, Moravia, and neighbouring countries during The First Silesian War (1740-1742). An extensive plan of Prague and its fortifications fills up the upper right corner of the map.

The map was printed on two joined sheets. An interesting peculiarity of the map is history of its northern (upper) sheet. Before the two-sheet edition appeared the northern sheet had been distributed separately as SCHLESISCHES KRIEGS THEATRUM Anno 1741, illustrating areas and developments of the early period of the war. Its title cartouche was located just above the lower frame, with the map’s legend nearby, enclosed in a small rectangle and listing only two routes, of the Prussians and of Hungarians. In the upper right corner plans of three Silesian fortresses were placed: Brieg (=Brzeg), Gross-Glogau (=Głogów) and Neus (=Nysa).

Before the northern plate was used to print upper half of a one year later two-sheet edition it had been thoroughly re-worked. The original three plans were replaced by a single one – that of Prague, title cartouche was erased and replaced with the relevant geographical content, names of some rivers and settlements were added. The map was also updated with routes of the recent marches and a sign marking location of Molowitz (=Małujowice), the most famous battlefield of Silesian Wars. The only reminder of the northern sheet’s first life has been the small legend marooned in the middle of Moravia, now completely useless.
