FAQ Buy or Bid
Paulus Swaen started selling old maps and prints in 1978 and when we started with our fully online auctions in 1998 we were the only auction house specializing in old maps and prints doing so. A lot has changed in 22 years, many sites didn't make it, and many followed in the following years.

We still warranty the authenticity of each lot offered and there is no time limitation to this guarantee.
All items are carefully and personally examined before being packed "in-house" and shipped by DHL / UPS or registered mail.
- We do not sell reproductions.
- Defects in lots have been carefully noted.
- If no remarks are found regarding, splits, tears, discoloration, etc; this means there are none to be found for the item!
- Colour is by hand, and we specify if the item is in "original colors" or "colored". We try to sell as many as possible maps and prints in original color or in their original black and white state. We try to avoid, as much as possible, offering recently colored-up maps.
- A certificate of authenticity is provided for each acquired item and can be downloaded from the invoice page.
If you have concerns about the condition of an item, please contact us, prior to placing your bid.
If any lot differs significantly from the catalog description it may be returned within two weeks of receipt. However, this should not be interpreted as a sale on approval.

Please read our terms and conditions before bidding in the auction. These conditions are the complete, and only, terms and conditions on which all property is offered for sale.
Your online invoice is displayed 12 hours after the close of each auction in My invoices in My control panel
You need to be logged in to see your invoice. Following the close of the auction we will also email you a copy of the invoice.
Beginning at 3:55 PM EST U.S.A. the computer will check each item at 5
minutes intervals. If there has been no bidding activity for the last 5
minutes the computer will close the bidding on that item exactly at 4 PM.

If there has been a bid in the past 5 minutes, that individual item will remain open, until there have been no bids received for 5 minutes.
NOTE Once the Buy price is accepted the sale for this item will close immediately.

you can follow all items you have bid on or want to monitor, even without having placed a bid on. We notify you by Email when someone OUTBID you or PLACES a bid on the items that you have added to My BidPage.
Outbid email notifications ( and image zoom functions ) are disabled 2 hours before the sale closing!
During the last 24 hours before the closing, this page shows the Reserve Price when no or insufficient bids have been received.
