Title : Galatia cujus populi Tolistobogi, Tectosages, Trocmi, mox provincia sub romanis in primam et secundam divisa et in ea romana itineraria ex tabula Peutingeriana. . ..
Map maker : SANSON, N. / MARIETTE, P..
Date : Paris, after 1637.
Size : 13.8 x 22.7 inches. / 35.0 x 57.6 cm.

Description :Rare map of northern Turkey, centered around Ancyra (Ankara) and illustrates the provinces inhabited by the three Celtic tribes (Tolistobogi, Tectosages, and Trocmi) that migrated from the Danube Valley to Galatia in the 3rd century BC. Cities, rivers, mountains, and tribal provinces are depicted, along with key routes between cities.

Nicolas Sanson was to bring about the rise of French cartography, although the fierce competition of the Dutch would last until the end of the century. His success was partly owing to the partnership with the publisher Pierre Mariette.
In 1644 the latter had purchased the business of Melchior Tavernier, and helped Sanson with financial support in producing the maps. In 1657 Pierre Marriette died, however his son, also named Pierre, co-published the following years.

Condition : Good and dark impression. Paper very slightly age toned.
