Gerard Mercator's great world map of 1569 was condensed into double hemispherical form by his son Rumold. It first appeared in 1587 and was incorporated into his long-lived and influential Atlas from 1595 to 1602.

Budapest, 1949, In original colours. 800x1140mm. Originally folded 4 times, so into 16 segments. It has been carefully restored by the folding lines where it was necessary, backed the lines with stripes and laid on a very thin japan paper.
In the front some retouching by the folding lines where it was needed. Some pencil marks erased on the front. In a fine overall condition.
Extremely rare, separately, only once issued, so called "placard / poster" economical world map!
Surrounded by the portrait of "the big and genius leader of all the working people of the world" and 19 other pictures, which are depicting his and the Socialist Areas giant outcomes.
