Condition: Hand-coloured zincograph map, dissected into 40 sheets and mounted on cloth. With original slip case. Generally in very good condition.
Condition Rating

Charming folding world map on Mercator's projection showing extensive steam routes and underground and undersea telegraph cables. The map is annotated in blue and red with two trip around the world, including overland legs in Africa, India and the United States.
In red ink south of Australia "1st Journey 1891" and 1900 2nd journey to Japan returning via, Suez Canal" 3rd journey 1905 same route as 1st journey".

The map is filled with detail, the map delineates political boundaries and displays cities, rivers and topography.
Inset maps at bottom show the Arctic and Antarctic regions.

Still in it's original publisher's yellow advertisements at end papers, folding into original green covers, yellow label.
Published by Edward Stanford, 55 Charing Cross, S.W., London.
Dimensions when folded 175x115mm.

Provenance : With signature of Alan Sillitoe (1928-2010), who was Englandís best writers of proletarian fiction. From an early age, geography and maps were a very important part of his life.
In August 2011, Ramsay Wood meets and talks with Alan Silitoe and wrote : Sillitoe loves maps. He regards them the way some people regard beautiful paintings.
