George Smith a York mathematician invented this skewed projection to depict the path round the globe of the 1748 eclipse. The map is centred on the North Pole The map also includes double circles to indicate the appearance of the sun at various locations, Dublin, Edinburgh, London, Paris, Madrid, Vienna, St Petersburg, Rome, Constantinople, Archangel, Moscow, Jerusalem, Cairo, Goa, Port St George, Quebec, Boston, Madera, Gibraltar, Cork, Bristol, Newcastle, Shetland, Landsend...
