Bidding at auction
In order to place bids you must register with us. It is free, and we automatically update you about future auctions.
The auction starts with the Starting Bid and is the amount at which we are starting to accept bids, typically this is under the reserve price.
Bids are placed in the bidding table on this page or from Your Personal bid page. The bidding table shows either the starting or mininimum bid, high and low estimate and the time left before the auction closes. The highest bid received at closing wins!.
You may place a bid by entering any amount equal or higher than the starting bid or the minimum bid indicated on the bid page.

When accepted your UserID is shown as the bidholder and the item is automatically added to your personal bid page. You may place a new bid at the suggested minimum bid increment, or any higher amount in which case the Proxy Bid function will raise your bids with the minimum increase necessary to win the bidding (up to your maximum bid).
If there has been a bid in the last 5 minutes before the closing, that individual item will remain open, until there have been no bids received for 5 minutes. more

The Starting bid: is the amount at which we are starting to accept bids and is typically under the reserve price set by the seller.
The Reserve price is the amount for which the seller is obligated to sell. This amount is as a general rule 20% under the low estimate.
The Low Estimate and High Estimates are the amount inbetween we expect the item can sell.

Buyers' premium
The buyer pays, on top of the hammer price, a premium of 15% on the first $30,000 and 10% on the excess.
The invoice will be available 2 hours after the closing.

Warranty
We warranty the authenticity of each old map, print, atlas, medieval manuscript described in this catalogue. There is no time limitation to this garantuee.
- Splits, tears, discolouration and other defects are carefully noted. In addition we use a condition rating system
 If the condition report does not show remarks about splits, tears, discolouration, etc; this means there are non to be found in the item!.
 As a general rule we try to offer maps of a high quality standard
-Any lot differing from the catalogue description may be returned for a full refund.
- A certificate of authenticity is provided for each acquired antique map, print, medieval manuscript.
The certificate can be downloaded from your invoice page. Update your preference if you want us to print and ship the certificate within your parcel.

Colour
Colour is by hand; If the colours are applied at publication we note this in the catalog as "original colours". If the colours are applied recently we use "coloured".

Proxy bid
Maximum bid and proxy bid are the same thing.
To place a proxy bid, just enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay. Using proxy bidding you can win the item at the lowest possible price and you do not have to follow the bidding manually. More...
Your maximum bid will never be displayed to other parties.

Bid increments.
The bid increment is the amount by which a bid will be raised each time the current bid is outdone. It is predetermined based on the current high bid.

Reserve price
Most sellers prefer setting a reserve price when selling their items.
As a general rule a reserve price is set at 20% under the low estimate.
If your bid happens to be lower than the "reserve price", the text message (*Reserve not yet met) will be shown. You have to raise your bid until the "reserve price" is met.
Sellers are able to reduce a reserve price until 24 hours before the close. If you have under reserve bids less than 24 hours before the close you have to raise your bid at a minimum up to the reserve to win the item.
Items are no longer available after the close.

Closing
Beginning at 5:55 PM U.S.A. EST the computer will check each item at 5 minutes intervals. If there has been no bidding activity for the last 5 minutes the computer will close the bidding on that item exactly at 6PM.
If there has been a bid in the past 5 minutes, that individual item will remain open, until there have been no bids received for 5 minutes.
A countdown clock is displayed at each item page and shows the remaining bid time left for that item.
Outbid notification and zoom image are disabled 2 hours prior to the auction closing !

Shipping
A flat, one-time, shipping fee of $25.00 is added to the invoice. This covers : International Priority shipping, Packing and Insurance (up to the invoice amount).
