Description :Detailed map of the north west of Europe centered on Poland and Lithuania. The map is prepared by D.G. Reymann and published in Berlin by Simon Schropp & Co.
A road system starting in St. Petersburg until the Balkans and Mediterranean has been engraved in and coloured in red. The frontier are coloured.

Simon Schropp (1757-1817) was a map and globe seller active in Berlin. He received In April 1742 permission from the Prussian king to trade maps. The business outlook was good: Frederick II had great military and civil ambitions demanding correct topographical information about his own and neighbouring countries. The bourgeoisie also needed reliable maps for its trading business.
The expected business success was initially lacking. In map production, the French specialists predominantly dominated the market.
After the death of Frederick II in 1786, restrictions on publishing were largely ignored and the private map trade, in which the company Simon Schropp & Co. had a great share, flourished. Simon Schropp & Co. had its headquarters in the Milbradt house on the corner of Königs-Straße / Heilige Geiststraße.
In addition to maps, copper engravings, aquatints, paper and toys, and later also geographic literature were sold. Towards the end of the 18th century, Simon Schropp & Co. was one of the leading map publishers and traders in Prussia. Berlin became the center of Prussian cartography. Schropp was in close contact with many experts, such as Daniel Friedrich Sotzmann, the royal geographer at the Academy of Sciences. Some of the most important maps of Prussian countries and towns were relocated and distributed by Schropp.

Condition : Very good condition. Folding map dissected in 18 sections, and laid down on canvas.
