Title : Angliae Regni flo: rentissimi nova descriptio, auctore Humfredo Lhuyd Cum Privilego..
Map maker : ORTELIUS, A..
Date : Antwerp, 1595.
Size : 15.0 x 18.3 inches. / 38.0 x 46.5 cm.
Colouring : In original colours.

Description :Map by Humphrey Lloyd, Denbigh with coast shaded sea borders, rivers, hillocks, forests and towns. Published by Abraham Ortelius. The map presents an interesting picture of the southern Welsh coast and the Devon and Cornwall peninsula.
This is curious as Lloyd himself was a Welshman, and a noted cartographer, and this depiction was certainly obsolete at the time of publication.
This is Humphrey Lloyd's depiction of England and Wales published in the first Additamentum to the Ortelius atlas.
The map has a picture frame border with labeled borders. The title in Latin is within a strapwork cartouche with royal coat of arms, as is the scale chequered scale line. In the sea are sea-monsters and galleons. Descriptive text in Latin on verso.
Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) was a Flemish geographer of German origin. His major work, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (1570, with later revisions and addenda) was the first modern atlas. The Theatrum preceded the first Atlas of Ortelius' good friend Gerardus Mercator.
Condition : Strong image with lovely old original colors and wide margins with marginal tears and reinforcements, not effecting image. Some browning, foxing. Latin text on verso.
