Title : Stato della Chiesa con la Toscana..
Map maker : BLAEU, W..
Date : Amsterdam, 1634.
Size : 15.2 x 19.7 inches. / 38.5 x 50.0 cm.
Colouring : Uncoloured.

Description :FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE OF THIS MAP - PROOF STATE Only included in the 1634 edition of Blaeu's Atlas Novus, the first edition of this work and the very first time Blaeu printed this map. RARE.
The proof state can be distinguished from later states by the lack of rhumb lines and compass rose in the upper right section of the map and the lack of the 4 sailing ships embellishing the final state of the map.

Standard map of Tuscany and central Italy with Rome, Florence, Urbino, Ancona and Bolognia featured. Missing some of the embellishments of later editions. As Willem Blaeu died in 1638 most of his maps are actually published by his son Joan, by 1630, he had published at least 17 folio size maps. Blaeu was able to realize his plan soon after he had acquired the copper plates of the atlas maps by Jodocus Hondius. The "Appendix followed in 1630. In 1635 he finally realized a "international edition" of a world atlas, the "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum". Map is dominated by a large, ornate religious title cartouche, together with an imaginative scale of miles with two cherubs standing on top holding up the Papal flag.

From an incomplete example of the 1634 German text edition of Blaeu's "Novus Atlas", previously owned by Johann Christoph Gesen (1639), Johann Rudolph von Metzradt (1651), Friedrich August II, King of Saxony (1797-1854).
P. van der Krogt mentions two variants for the German 1634 text edition and only two examples containing proof states (Bad Münstereifel and Gotha).
