Description :A fine copy of the second edition of Solinus' "Polyhistor" with the commentary by Sebastian Münster being the first illustrated editions of Solinus' "Polyhistor" and Pomponius Mela's "De situ orbis".
With 2 full-page maps of Europe and Africa and a folding woodcut map of 'Asia maior' showing at the top right corner a north-west orientated coastline labelled 'Terra incognita'. It represents the earliest printed map of the north-west coast of America, and one of the first delineations of the strait between Asia and America.
With large and small maps in text of a.o. Rome, Italy, Greece, Moscow, the Caspian Sea and the British Isles.
