Title : Pascaert van Brasil-Littora Brasiliae..
Map maker : DE WIT,F.
Date : Amsterdam, 1680.
Size : 19.0 x 22.0 inches. / 48.3 x 56.0 cm.
Colouring : In attractive original colours.

Description :Sea chart of the South American coastline from Guyana to Rio de la Plata. East to the top. Embellished with two compass roses and 5 sailing vessels.
Oriented with north to the left by two fine compass roses, it covers the Brazilian coastline from the mouth of the Amazon to the Rio de la Plata.
A dramatic title cartouche that fills the interior is constructed of a montage of scenes showing Portuguese and Dutch explorers and missionaries, an Indian ceremony, mining, exotic animals, and produce, etc.
The cartouche has been etched by the master etcher and engraver Romeyn de Hooghe.
Rhumb lines cross the entire map, which is further embellished by four sailing ships. From "Orbis Maritimus ofte Zee Atlas". The copperplates would have a long publication run stretching into the nineteenth century. After de Wit's death in 1710, the plates were acquired by Louis Renard, who substantially revised many of the charts and published them in 1715 and 1739.
After Renard, the plates were brought by the Ottens brothers, again revised, and published in their atlas of 1745.
The plates were finally acquired by G. Hulst van Keulen, whose widow re-issued them in 1802.
Condition : Paper on a few placed underlaid due to oxidation of green paint, mainly for protective reason. On one place small re-inforcement of paper. Overall in good condition.
