Published : Paris, Michael Soly, 1629. Size : 15.2 x 21.1 inches. / 38.6 x 53.5 cm. Colouring : Coloured.
Early copper engraved map of the towns of Valletta, Borgo, Sanglea di Sto. Michele, and the church of St. Salvator -known as the Three Cities., engraved by Henry Raignauld. In lower left corner an inset with Malta and Gozzo. Raigniauld’s signature is carefully worked into a cartouche also mentioning J.Douillier fecit. The top right corner of the map displays the "Order of St. John of Jerusalem" coat of arms with three fleur-de-lys surmounted by a crown and with the eight pointed cross behind. The arms of the Order of St. John are given, and the map is decorated with many sailing ships. In the lower part is a second coat of arms of the bishop of Nicosia, showing a lion with three stars above and three crescent moons above that. FromHistoire des Chevaliers de l’Ordre de S. A printers crease in left hand part.
