Description :Two bird's-eye views on one sheet: Mexico and Cusco.
Showing Mexico City and Cusco, the capital cities of the Aztecs and Incas, with the major buildings shown in profile with little consideration for perspective.
Lake Texcoco showing a body of water drained by Spanish officials to prevent the flooding of the city, suggests a period predating the arrival of the Europeans. Key images like the city center of Mexico and the royal palace of Cusco show similarities to other European maps of the period.
In the foreground of each are illustrations of Aztec and Inca figures.
Janssonius' rare rdition of this town-plan after Braun & Hogenberg, with Latin text on verso. From "Theatrum Urbium Celebriorum totius Belgii sive Germaniae Inferioris."
Condition : Good condition. Paper slightly age-toned.
